Work and the grandiose expectations of making a difference
How do you feel about work? Do you love it, or hate it? Do you find deep meaning in it? Should we be looking for purpose in our jobs?
We meet again for the beginning of our programming year and our featured presenter will be multiple SPARK Awards Winner and past MarCom Board Member Ron Nichols with the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Will he say that his job has allowed deep levels of satisfaction, or has it been boring and beastly? Did all of his award-winning work “make a difference” or did it make any difference at all? Is it too grandiose to expect that our working lives do indeed make some kind of positive impact, somehow, some way? How will Ron answer these questions? How would you?
You see, I’ve been contemplating questions like these for myself lately. I just accepted a new position with the Spokane Club that isn’t directly related to (in the job title at least) marketing, communications or PR. I’m now the Club’s Events Manager. This means I have to create compelling programs and experiences for Club members that “make a difference”. Yikes! How?
Come find out on September 5th, 7:30 am at Cataldo Hall as summer gives way to fall, and we re-connect with friends and colleagues over breakfast. See how Ron made a difference with a look back at the strategies, tools and tactics that sent him home with one of two Brightest SPARK Awards for his work on the “Wonders of Wildlife” campaign.
Here’s why I love being a part of MarCom. It makes a difference. For me. Hope it will for you too.
Bring a friend. See you there.
