Successful Fundraising Strategies for Non-profits
Learn About Successful Non-Profit Fundraising Strategies At the Spokane MarCom/PRSA December Breakfast Meeting
7:30 - 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7 Cataldo Hall, Gonzaga University
Whether you work for a non-profit organization and are looking to raise money for a worthy cause, or you work for a for-profit business and want to make intelligent decisions about supporting a worthy cause, this is the breakfast meeting for you. A panel of marketing/communication folks from local non-profits will answer your questions (or pose a few of their own) and show you the best ways to raise support.
The panel includes Trish McFarland, Development Director for the YWCA (Women's empowerment and membership movement), Ann Price, Resource Director for Community Frameworks (Human Services and affordable housing), and Chris Martin, Executive Director, First Night Spokane (Community/Arts civic celebrations), who will share their experiences asking individual, corporate and foundation donors. The panel will be moderated by Teri Mathis, who's Pivot Point Financial Consulting business helps individuals and families make charitable decisions.
Expect fundraising strategies and ideas that you can use, from evaluating how ready your organization is to ask for money to how best to make the case for support. The panel can even talk about differing perceptions and needs between those who are asking for money and those who are giving it away -- all you have to do is ask them!
So come on Dec. 7 and enjoy a tasty breakfast and some good advice. Click here to RSVP online and save over the at-the-door price.

Get a Gift and Give a Gift at December’s Program
Get a gift: Come to the December breakfast meeting and gain some inspiration and insights that will help you land an important charitable gift for your organization.
Give a gift: Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots.
Here’s another gift idea: Bring a friend or associate to the December meeting on us (maybe someone from a non-profit organization or your development department). When you RSVP for the meeting, simply type in the name of your guest in the new “comments” section.
For the second year in a row, each MarCom board member will give a gift to another board member that he/she may have liked as a child. You didn’t realize how fun it is to be on the MarCom board, did you? For instance, I’m debating whether to get Jeff Thomas a Tonka truck or a Cabbage Patch Kid. Anyway, as established by last year’s president, Bethany Luck-Hutson, we will then donate those toys to children in need.
This year, I invite all members to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the December breakfast. After the board’s gift exchange, we will deliver all toys to Toys for Tots – a non-profit program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve that distributes toys to children and families in need.
While we all strategize ways to tell our organization’s story and garner precious resources for our efforts, please remember the abundance we already have as marketing, fundraising and public relations professionals. And, consider sharing that abundance with others this holiday season.
-- Dave Sonntag, President Spokane MarCom

Nominate Someone for a PRSA Award
Nominations for the PRSA Communicator of the Year, Educator of the Year and the Degerness Award for Excellence in Public Relations are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30. Last year, Cher Desautel from Desautel Hege Communications was awarded the Degerness Award, and Eckart Preu of the Spokane Symphony was awarded the Communicator of the Year Award.
Anyone can nominate someone for one of PRSA's awards, as long as you have one of the supporting letters from a PRSA member. Application materials are available online at http://www.prsaspokane.org/awards.asp
