April Meeting: The Future of Public Relations
|
|
April MarCom Networking Breakfast Features National PRSA Chair-Elect Speaking on the Future of Public Relations -- Friday, April 6 at 7:30 a.m. in Cataldo Hall, Gonzaga Univ.
The April 6th MarCom/PRSA meeting will feature Jeffrey P. Julin, APR, chair-elect of the national Public Relations Society of America board and the president of MGA Communications in Denver.
His background includes 30 years of experience in issue and crisis management, working on controversial projects from product liability to regulatory and labor situations. Julin has deep experience in integrated marketing and communications strategies for industries as diverse as real estate, finance, natural resources, food service, e-commerce and high technology. He will have plenty to say about what the future holds for the profession.
 Jeff Julin, APR
Plus, this meeting kicks off PRSA’s Day on the Job, with college students joining us for the breakfast and then shadowing many of the PR/communications professionals during the morning. It should be an interesting and informative day for everyone involved!
The meeting is open to any interested PR/marketing/communications professionals and students. The meeting fee, which includes breakfast, is $9 for members, $11 for non-members and $7 for students.

Let's Celebrate!
Keep an eye on your mailbox…an invitation to the Spark Awards will be arriving soon! It’s your chance to mingle with your friends, network with colleagues and celebrate some of the region’s greatest PR, marketing and communications work of the last year.
The Spark Awards will be at the Spokane Athletic Club again this year because they have been such fabulous hosts. But there will be some new and improved elements at this year’s gala event. While we’re not yet ready to share most of them, I will give you a hint about one… remember those photos Dean Davis took of you while you were dropping off your entries at Desautel Hege Communications? Don’t be surprised if they appear at some point during the program.
One thing will remain the same as last year – we will not honor anyone with the Dussault Award. Only this year it’s because there were no entries in the category. Are you kicking yourself for not entering your stellar campaign that obviously would have had a great chance of winning? Don’t! Just remember – you have to enter in order to win. You might want to keep this in mind next year as you decide whether or not to enter a campaign for the Dussault Award. We will continue a tradition that started at last year’s Spark Awards by honoring the three highest scoring entries as “The Brightest Sparks.”
You may be wondering if there is still time to jump on the Spark Awards bandwagon and become a sponsor – of course there is! But you’ve got to act fast. Contact Fundraising Chair Pam Kippes at 323.1309 or pamelak@spokanefederal.com to see what sponsorship options are still available. Sponsoring the Spark Awards is a great opportunity to promote your business in a unique way in front of more than 100 decision-makers in communications, marketing and PR.
So mark your calendar – the Spark Awards are Wednesday, April 25, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Spokane Athletic Club, 1002 W Riverside Ave. This is your opportunity to recognize the professional greatness in our community while you enjoy delicious food and beverages, network with colleagues and fraternize with friends.
Have an awesome April! I look forward to seeing you all at the breakfast meeting on Friday, April 6th and at the Spark Awards on Wednesday, April 25th!

And the Winners Are...
The competition was intense – the selection decisions difficult. But in the end, three remarkable young professionals have been chosen to be this year’s Spokane Regional MarCom Association’s interns. Your membership dues, participation in the Spark Awards, and donations and sponsorships throughout the year make these paid internships possible.
But to find out who they are, and where they will be interning, you need to come to the April 6 MarCom/PRSA breakfast meeting at GU's Cataldo Hall. So come and meet the winners and sponsors!

GU Surveying Local PR Professionals
Gonzaga's Public Relations Department is currently in the process of gathering best practice research on how to strengthen the university's PR program. Part of the research includes getting feedback from local practitioners. They would like MarCom members to fill out a 10 question on-line survey that only takes 5 minutes! Here's the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=644663518165
They are also asking local practitioners to attend a focus group on Tuesday, April 17th at 6 p.m. in Gonzaga's Administration building. The time commitment is only about 45 minutes to an hour and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP as soon as possible!
If you have any questions or to RSVP for the focus group, please contact Kelsey Merwick via e-mail kmerwick@gonzaga.edu or by phone (206) 369-2430. Thanks in advance for your support!
