Join us for a panel discussion with visual communication professionals about the process of developing visuals, how to approach visual projects and how to best work with creatives.  

Meet the panelist:

Photographer: Dean Davis with Dean Davis Photography

Dean Davis was born in Wurzburg Germany to a military family and spent 7 years in the Army as a young adult, his last 4 years as a Dutch translator in Holland. He was part owner of Spokane’s first microbrewery, The Fort Spokane Brewery. He founded the Inland Empire Blues Society in 1991 and spent 13+ years as co-host of The KKZX Blues Show with Ted and Dean. Dean started his photography business in January 1997 and has been involved with the community in many ways since. He is a past president of the American Advertising Federation, a former board member of Spokane Regional MARCOM and is currently the Chair of the Spokane Arts Commission and a board member of the Spokane Arts Fund. In addition to his commercial photography, Dean produces personal fine art work. His most recent show was a 7 month exhibit at the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture titled “The Artist’s Palette – Through the Lens of Dean Davis”.

Videographer: Frank Swoboda with Corner Booth Media

Frank Swoboda, Corner Booth Media's Founder and President is a writer, director, strategist and media consultant.  Frank is a highly regarded and skillfull interviewer, putting people at ease in front of the camera and drawing out their best authentic story. His extensive experience includes writing and directing The Basket, Movie Guide's Family Film of the Year in 2000, and his award shelf also includes a National Addy and a Show West Best of Show. Frank collaborates with mid and enterprise level marketing teams in healthcare, financial services, higher education and not for profits, integrating new media and video alongside traditional forms of marketing. 

Art Director: Darin Klündt with Klündt | Hosmer

Darin is a founding partner of Klündt | Hosmer, a global, integrated branding firm that collaborates with their clients to discover and express who they really are through authentic, brand-focused communication. Darin leads and inspires a creative team of designers, photographers, videographers, web developers and printers as a coach, instructor and critic all at once.

During a career that spans three decades, Darin has received many regional and national design awards for the high level of quality and intentionality that he brings to all projects produced by his firm. He has taught classes at SFCC and Whitworth University, and is a part of SFCC’s Graphic Design Advisory Board, where he is involved with developing the academic curriculum for SFCC’s graphic design students.

Darin actively supports the local ventures of the Inland Northwest Boy Scouts and the Rypien Foundation. In 2005, Darin was selected as the Advertising Professional of the Year by Spokane’s American Advertising Federation (AAF) chapter for his many contributions to the advertising industry.

Graphic Designer: Courtney Sowards with Helveticka

Courtney Sowards is a graphic designer at Helveticka, a Spokane creative firm now in its 28th year of business. Born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, she graduated from Eastern Washington University's visual communications design program, then went to work for a local productions company as a motion graphic and web designer. Since joining Helveticka in 2015, Courtney has played critical roles in everything from logo design to comprehensive marketing campaigns, serving as art director, designer, and project manager. In addition to her Helveticka responsibilities, she handles production and fulfillment for the firm's sister company, Helveticahaus, a non-profit online retailer whose proceeds go toward funding scholarships for Spokane-area graphic design student, and serves on the EWU Downtown Student Gallery Advisory Board.
